October has arrived, the nights are drawing in, and Vauxhall has plenty of reasons not to head straight home.

There’s jazz in the cellar, Singaporean brunch at Bonnington Café, Swiftie brunch at The Black Dog and after-work drinks at The Garden. Elsewhere, GymNation Vauxhall opens its doors, the RVT welcomes a new improv comedy night, and Embody Wellness slows things down with an evening of cacao, yoga and sound healing.

Throw in books and puppets in Bonnington Square, new bar snacks at The Jolly Gardeners and a big Halloween night at Eagle London, and October is looking very fine indeed. Here’s our pick of the best things to see and do in Vauxhall this month.

After work socials at The Garden Vauxhall

Clocked off? The Garden has Thursday and Friday evenings sorted with 90 minutes of bottomless pizza and drinks, plus free arcade games, from £19.99. Launching on 1 October and running throughout the month, it’s a pretty convincing reason to get the group chat together and stick around in Vauxhall after work.

There’ll be three courses packed with Singaporean flavours, plus plenty of kopi and sambal – and it’s BYOB. There are just two sittings, at 11am and 1.15pm, so booking ahead is a very good idea.

Elephant in the Room at the RVT

No script, no safety net and absolutely no idea what’s going to happen next. Elephant in the Room takes over the legendary Royal Vauxhall Tavern for a night of live improv featuring five acts, from an entire musical created from audience suggestions to gossip, secrets and gloriously silly scenes invented on the spot. One room, five acts and plenty of potential for chaos.

Jazz in the Cellar at the Black Duke

Tuesday nights sound considerably better underground. Beneath Brunswick House, The Black Duke’s historic cellars host free live jazz every week, led by Mark Kavuma and The Banger Factory. Grab a seat among the dripping candles, order something from the cocktail or wine list and settle in for two sets in one of Vauxhall’s most atmospheric drinking dens. Seats are limited, so getting there early pays off.

Dig out the Nokia 3310 and prepare for a very noughties Halloween. Club 3310 returns to Eagle London for a night of queer millennial nostalgia, spooky bangers and pop throwbacks until 4am. Costumes are very much encouraged, with the night taking its cues from the era of MSN statuses, iPods, Sabrina, Goosebumps and Twilight. Basically, Halloween circa 2005 – with a much better dancefloor.

New Snack Menu at The Jolly Gardeners

The humble pub snack has had an upgrade at The Jolly Gardeners. Chef Will’s new menu goes well beyond a packet of crisps, with cauliflower wings and chipotle mayo, an Iron Age pork sausage roll, chorizo Scotch egg with roast garlic aioli, breaded whitebait and potato doughnuts with smoked cheddar. There’s even Welsh rarebit with mushroom ketchup. Prices start at £6 – leaving enough change for one of the pub’s £5 happy-hour pints.
