Inspired by the Parisian motto post-2015 attacks, “Il va falloir beaucoup, beaucoup, beaucoup d’amour” – “it’s going to take a lot, a lot, a lot of love” – creators Carolyn Defrin and Abigail Boucher invited three years of dinner guests to tell their stories that began with a kiss, which they then recorded. By intermingling them with live performance, Defrin and Boucher have created a memorable stage show that weaves humour and passion with sorrow and heartbreak, often while exploring the impact had by global crises and disaster.
“Through hundreds of conversations we’ve had about kissing in the last three years – we’ve discovered how much a kiss can be a radical act of care,” the creators say. Above all, the show asks, how can we heal after what we know has been shattered? Kissing Rebellion has been three years in the making, with recordings created across creators’ home cities of London, Paris, Chicago and Los Angeles.
