Emma Jüngling – Richborne Terrace, Vauxhall

Emma Jüngling is a Swiss classical singer who lives on Richborne Terrace in Vauxhall. Emma and her neighbours became superstars when in the first lockdown they hosted two street concerts to raise money for self-employed residents with no income and the second, in June, raised money for two local charities and to support the Black Lives Matter movement.

We LOVED hearing about the shows and seeing the videos, so we asked Emma if she would be one of our Local Story heroes?

Emma told us, “To me, Vauxhall is a creative and vibrant neighbourhood that has cultivated its community feeling. I’ve been living here for three years and it will always be the first neighbourhood my partner and I called home together. I am a mezzo-soprano and performing is a huge part of my identity – may be too huge if you ask any of my four siblings who were forced to watch/listen to my endless home shows.”

Emma’s favourite part of Vauxhall is Bonnington Square. She told us, “it has such as interesting history and a great deli! I once stumbled upon a party/festival in the gardens and it was a dazzling sight. I am also a big fan of the farmer’s market at St Mark’s Church.”

How did COVID affect your life as a student? Emma said, “A global pandemic is a crazy time to finish your studies and to enter the professional world but I guess it has prepared me for the difficulties of a career as a musician. The amount of support we have received surpassed my expectations. Personally, it has confirmed that making music with my community is going to be an integral part of my professional life.”

So, what does the future hold? Emma said, “I am excited for my future collaboration with Vauxhall One… more info on that is coming soon!”
